I've read that one of the biggest causes of death in wild animals are problems relating to dental issues, like gum disease, blood poisoning etc.
Not a great way to go.
human life is infused with pain.. but animal life is “define by pain.. animals in the wild are subject to endless torment from all angles of their existence.
wild dogs disembowel their prey, venomous snakes cause slow internal bleeding and paralysis.
crocodiles drown large animals in their jaws.. and animals also suffer from rampant disease, dehydration, and starvation, and have to contend with forest fires and floods, harsh winters and blistering heat.

my husband is going in on tuesday to have surgery to repair a badly torn rotator cuff on his right shoulder.
he is right handed.. he's 51 and is great about exercising and staying in shape.
however, while doing push ups, his shoulder just snapped.
Had a rotator cuff issue, but not so serious that it required surgery. I remember it was so difficult to find a comfortable position to sleep in.
I tried plasma replacement therapy and it seemed to help. You have some of your own blood taken and spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma, which is then injected to the injured area.
a number of states are allowing people to not wear a mask.
some think this is disastrous!
what’s your view?.

"I dont care one bit if a mask is 99% effective or 2% effective, if you want to wear one (or two or three) masks, knock yourself out, but f off with telling me what to do. Educate, inform, plead if you want, but mandates dont fly here."
Its health experts advising your government, and other governments around the world to take these precautions- its not the government making it up so they can take your rights away. I understand your feelings about being told what to do, I doubt anyone, anywhere in the world trusts their political leaders 100%, but this is a health issue.
Even if the death rate was 80%, there would still be some people that wouldn't believe there was a health crisis.

In the U.K, the number of cancer patients suspected of dying because of interruption to treatment is about 3- 4000. The total number of deaths from covid is about 125 000 as of today.
In the U.S, since March 2020,there is a clear picture of excess deaths in the community, that is, an excess of people that died compared to normal.
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/excess_deaths.htm#dashboard
I couldnt find any figures for the amount of cancer patients that have died because of interruptions to treatment in the U.S.
Pete, it sounds like you are making some assumptions about health. Many people have to deal with a variety of health problems through no fault of their own, including type 1 diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol.
I think there is a point to be made about the collateral damage of covid restrictions but at the same time, I believe governments were preparing for the worst. The severity of the illness made some question the need for strict measures but who gets to make that decision- Facebook professors, or real scientists? Also, how much more severe would covid have to be before non-believers took it seriously- 10%, 30%? Who gets to make that decision?
Finally, people doing nothing and letting the virus spread increases the chance of it mutating into something far worse, that's the reason I personally felt restrictions and lock-downs made sense, if they were properly implemented and followed.
i like subjects that delve into the history of the religion and proofs that the witnesses are not the true religion.
i’m not so much into apologists saying we need to go to meetings, especially if the poster looks like a scammer trying to get ex jws going.
what subjects interest you ?
Pete, your comments about other peoples perception of the U.S is interesting. Briefly, this is my take on it.
U.S. policy has affected the world for decades since ww2. On one side, you have the U.S and its allies, including my country, Australia. If America decides to go to war, even if its just about oil, we, and other allies, get dragged along for the ride.
On the other side of the coin is the country being invaded. They have American bombs dropping on their houses, killing their relatives. Their allies are also affected by American policy and the last few wars have been fought in countries that happen to be muslim, so other muslims around the world are also affected and feel they have a stake in American policy. This has led to terrorism around the world, which affects even more people.
This is just my explanation to show you what you may not see if you live in America. Other people might see it differently to me.

Morph, at least you are honest, basically you don't give a f%@k whether masks work, or health professionals are right, no one is going to tell you what to do.
It sounds like you have watched too many movies. If you believe any society, including democratic ones makes you free, you are delusional.
Sadly for you, you live in a society that happens to contain other people besides yourself, who have to go to work, buy food, go to school etc. You enjoy a nice lifestyle because you and other people go to work and pay taxes. This all comes with an obligation to be respectful to others in your society that have the same rights as you.
The alternative is anarchy. Or is that what you and your gun-toting buddies want?

If you guys are convinced masks don't work, make sure your surgeon removes his if you are ever in the unfortunate position of needing surgery.

Ok anonymous, sorry but I'm calling you out on some of your comments.
'It takes 6 - 12 months to learn how to properly wear masks'. Really??? I tried to google that statement and found nothing because on the surface your comment sounds like a steaming pile of horse poo. Could you please provide evidence that this is the case. I mean, you could learn a lot of things in 12 months, I find it almost unbelievable that it takes that long to learn how to wear a mask properly. I have nurses in my family and I have never heard of anything like that.
Also, once again, lockdowns definitely work when they are implemented properly. Please take a look at the data from Australia that proves the case. You mention 'worldwide data' but you only cite states in the U.S. as evidence mandated lockdowns don't work. Did those states have strict border closures to prevent unnecessary movement? If so, for how long?
Jhine, I agree with your comment about a conspiracy. You couldn't get Russia and America to agree on the weather, yet they are all in this covid conspiracy together?
this site was and remains instrumental in assisting people that want to leave the jw's.. there has been political discussion here for some time now, a good couple of years and it makes me feel a little uneasy.
i just opened up the site for the first time in some weeks, of the 10 posts being discussed, 4 were by the same poster, about politics, promoting their right wing beliefs.. this has been the trend for some time now, the same name behind a peppering of posts stirring the right v left of politics.. i remain forever grateful to the site and it's founders simon & angharad, i appreciate that simon shares some of these these political beliefs.
it would be a shame to see the site evolve from a place for jw freedom of thought and escape, to political squabbling, that the world is frankly tired of right now.. just to clarify, politics is my hobby, whilst my friends read the football scores, i'm reading polling data.
It's only natural that outstanding current events will be discussed on a forum like this. I've posted before that Trump era politics seem to be extremely divisive, and conversations on the subject often ended up being counter - productive, 'I'm right, you're wrong' arguments.
Understandably, that becomes tiring after a while.
gen 1: 11 says: .
11 then god said, “let the earth sprout [j]vegetation, [k]plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit according to [l]their kind [m]with seed in them”; and it was so.
12 the earth produced [n]vegetation, [o]plants yielding seed according to [p]their kind, and trees bearing fruit [q]with seed in them, according to [r]their kind; and god saw that it was good.
Doing a little bit of digging, I noticed that the Hebrew word for 'heaven' , haš·šā·ma·yim, can also be translated to simply 'sky'. The same word is used at gen 1:1, and again at Gen 1:20 when describing the place birds fly. Knowing that birds dont fly in outer space, Im leaning towards 'the heavens' referring to what we would call the sky above us and not space, containing stars, galaxies etc.
The idea of an opaque, water vapour canopy has always been a bit odd for me, as Gen 1:14 says that the newly created lights in the sky were to serve as signs to mark time and the changing of the seasons. If that was the case, why were they hidden behind a cloud canopy, if the very reason they were made was so humans could see them and tell the time?
